Cadence
Pilot teams open for the 2026–27 season

See how every runner loads the ground.

Cadence is a shared kit of pressure-sensing insoles and an AI coach dashboard. One 10-minute screening run a week flags rising injury risk, so you hear about it before the stress fracture.

The problem

Coaches see mileage and splits. Not how each foot hits the ground.

Watches report pace, heart rate and cadence. A gait lab is a clinic visit per athlete. Pain usually surfaces only when a runner finally admits it, often after the damage is done.

The weekly loop

One shared kit. One 10-minute run per athlete.

Six pairs rotate across a 40-runner roster. Short sessions keep the hardware alive all season.

  1. 01

    Pick a runner

Open the app, choose the athlete, hand over the insole pair in their size.

  2. 02

    Slip in, clip on

Insoles go under the footbed, pods clip to the laces. A 5-second standing calibration normalizes every zone.

  3. 03

    Run 10 minutes

2 min easy, 5 steady, 3 tempo, on the same loop each week. Data streams to the phone with a per-step backup.

  4. 04

    Get the flag

Within a minute the runner sees a heatmap and one tip, and the coach's roster updates.

What it measures

Change from each runner's own baseline.

Cadence never says heel striking is bad. It tracks loading rate, asymmetry and form breakdown against the runner's first three screenings, and pairs them with the known strong predictors: prior injury, sex and a weekly pain check-in.

Loading-rate proxy

Slope of summed force in the first ~50 ms of contact.

Linked to bone stress injury

Left/right asymmetry

Difference in peak force and impulse between feet.

Often signals compensation for pain

Foot-strike pattern

Which zone loads first at each contact: rear, mid, fore.

Context, never judged alone

Medial vs lateral load

Inner vs outer zone share at midstance.

Pronation proxy

Contact time & cadence

Contact detected from force plus IMU.

Cadence is a coachable lever

Form breakdown

Change from the first to last minute of tempo.

Fatigue-driven form loss

Coach dashboard

Your roster, sorted red to green.

Every flag shows which metric changed and by how much. A red flag says one thing: talk to your athletic trainer before the next hard session. No diagnosis, no overclaiming.

  • Per-runner baselines and season trends
  • Screening schedule with who is due and which insole size
  • Plain-language summaries from an LLM that only restates computed numbers

Why a shared kit

Consumer insoles sold one pair per runner. That never scaled.

NURVV raised a $9M Series A and went insolvent in August 2023. Research insoles are priced for labs. Nobody sells a screening kit to high school coaches.

Built carefully

Designed for coaches, safe for teenagers.

Honest about the science

Flags are about change within one runner. We only report accuracy we have measured, and thresholds are tuned on real team data.

Minimal data on minors

First name and last initial only. No body weight or diet data. Coach and athletic-trainer access by roster.

Consent first

Parental consent forms and school approval before the first screening.

No clinical claims

Cadence is a screening aid, not a medical device. A red flag means talk to your athletic trainer.

FAQ

The questions coaches ask first.

Possibly. Cadence never labels a strike pattern as bad. Heel strikers show higher vertical loading rates, and high loading rate has been linked to tibial stress fractures, but forefoot striking shifts load to the calf and Achilles, and prospective data on injury risk by strike pattern is lacking. Cadence watches for change against each runner's own baseline. It sold a ~$300 gadget to every runner, with no buyer who could act on the data, and went insolvent in August 2023. Cadence sells a shared kit to the coach, who gets a roster-level view.We are validating against 240 fps slow-motion video on our own team, with a target of 85%+ agreement on rearfoot vs non-rearfoot strikes, plus repeatability and sensitivity checks. We will publish measured results, not claims.No. Cadence is a screening aid. It makes no diagnosis, and a red flag only says to talk to your athletic trainer before the next hard session. We collect the minimum: first name and last initial, screening metrics and a weekly check-in. No body weight or diet data. Access is limited to the coach and athletic trainer by roster, with parental consent and school approval first. For the first version the screening device is an Android phone or a laptop with Chrome, because iOS Safari does not support Web Bluetooth. Runners and coaches can view results on any device.
